It may have been the spate of fiery Tesla Model S crashes that grabbed all the headlines, but it was a brutal “cannot recommend” from Edmunds (after an unprecedented number of problems in their long term tester) and an sheepish admission from Consumer Reports of many flaws found in their test car (which they previously lavished with praise) that have the Silicon Valley company backpedaling. General Motors, on the other hand, clearly flubbed the ELR’s launch, starting with a silly commercial that premiered during the Superbowl. It was tragically bad.
Lets get this out of the way, right away … the Cadillac ELR does not compete with the Tesla Model S … they are very different cars. The contrarian’s opinion is that the ELR is superior to the Model S on a number of counts. Suspend your disbelief for a few moments and we’ll take this on, point by point. The Tesla Model S is very cool, no doubt about that, but the car has serious issues that must be addressed.
