Cadillac ELR Better than the Tesla Model S?

A Center Stack That is Not a Huge Safety Liability

The Tesla Model S’ seventeen inch flat screen center stack is the most heinous attractive nuisance ever installed in an automobile. It is a distracted driving nightmare. There is a federal law that prevents you from watching movies on your dashboard while driving. Yet, the Tesla Model S allows you to browse the Internet. How could this possibly be safe? Why would the government allow this horrendously distracting activity to continue? Every “button” on the flat screen requires the driver to glance down and away from the road. Rather than being innovative, the Model S center stack is a criminally negligent decision with cost-cutting at its roots. The ELR’s interior designers took a radically different path. The Cadillac CUE entertainment system includes Pandora and I Heart Radio, flicks and swipes like a tablet (with haptic feedback), and keeps your eyes on the road and your ELR headed in the right direction with three years of GM’s OnStar telematics.

I’ll admit it. Once upon a time, I thought OnStar was silly … that was until I started test driving GM cars equipped with OnStar. I was quickly won over by the system’s ease of use and the peace of mind brought through interfacing with real live human beings in American call centers.
