Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado – Battling for Highest MPGs

Once upon a time, small pickups were offered by Mazda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Jeep and Volkswagen. The tiny VW Rabbit Diesel Pickup was capable of 45 MPG on the highway and was built right here in America. As federal fuel economy standards tighten, we may see a return of the mini-pickups.

A MPG Project Truck is in the works for third quarter of 2014. We’ve done some preliminary testing with an older (200K on the clock!) F-150 and will be in the hunt for the next test mule over the summer months. Rest assured, we’re not aiming for an astronomical rise in fuel economy with this truck; an extra one to two miles per gallon would represent a significant improvement on a percentage basis.
