Nissan brings a wide range of vehicles to the United States for the 2007 model year: the sporty 350z, compact Versa and Sentra, slew of SUVs (a.k.a.: the brawny Xterra, stalwart Pathfinder, sleek Murano, and jumbo-sized Armada).

The Nissan Altima Hybrid leads the pack with a very respectable 35 miles per gallon city rating. While the 350z delivers respectable mileage for a sports car, most of Nissan's SUV offerings stand to gain the most from improvements in MPG figures. If all goes well with the Altima Hybrid, it shouldn't be too long before we see the technology move into the largest and most fuel-hungry vehicles.

Nissan has a marketing hurdle to clear, as well. While it might be perception, the Altima Hybrid does not garner the same recognition as the Prius or even the Civic Hybrid. Ask folks on the street which manufactures produce a hybrid car and most will be hard-pressed to name Nissan among the top three.
