The 2010 Detroit Auto Show saw more hybrids and a marked increase in hoopla for the electrification of the automobile. A dedicated “Electric Avenue” on the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) floor joined an electric test track in the cellar of Cobo Hall, which continued a tradition started in 2009. (Truth be told, I so busy on the show floor, that I never found my way to the basement.)

2009 Detroit Auto Show: Concept Cars
January 17th, 2009 — NAIAS, concept
Concept cars have always been a huge focus of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), and 2009 was no exception. While the sheer number of concept cars may have been down compared to previous years, the 2009 Detroit Auto Show played host to an impressive array of vehicles. MPGomatic’s NAIAS concept car coverage provides crisp uncluttered videos that give you the “right there on the show floor” feeling, without the jostling elbows and noisy hordes.

There was no shortage of honest-to-goodness hard-working automotive journalists and bloggers of every stripe and size at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) press preview days in Detroit this week … and then there was yours truly, all part of the crazy mix.
Never mind the never-touched-a-wrench ne’re-do-wells. A fundamental shift has taken place. You know blogging has hit the big time when conventional media sits up and takes notice …especially the television news operations in major metropolitan areas, like Toledo, Ohio.
I met Barrett shortly after setting up my camera gear setup stage right in Cobo Arena for the Ford press conference. Hours later, Barrett caught me when I had packed everything up and was headed out for the day. He asked if I would do a piece on camera for his audience and I happily obliged.
2009 Detroit Auto Show Coverage
January 9th, 2009 — NAIAS
I’m about to head off to cover the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this weekend. The plan is to shoot as much video as I can over the course of Sunday and Monday. If all goes well, I’ll be streaming live video through Ustream.tv on Tuesday.
The most efficient way to keep up with MPGomatic coverage of the Detroit show is to follow me on Twitter. I’ll tweet when the video stream goes live and will do my best to take requests … if there’s a specific car you want me to chase down, please let me know and I’ll do my best to capture it on video.
Even though this is a down year, there will be a good number of exciting and innovative cars unveiled at the show. I’m bringing two boxes of MiniDV tapes to get everything I can on tape.
In all likelihood, I won’t have the chance to post videos to YouTube until I’m back at the ranch … but this will still be days before the show opens to the public.
