what about the Opel Eco Speedster http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/02/the-opel-eco-speedster.php

Or even the 1.3LCDI Corsa. I drove one of these in Ireland for 650 miles over a week and still had 1/4 of a 10gal tank left. Why wont GM bring that car or at least engine to the US? it would get 100mpg in a properly geared Diesel/electric Hybrid

@Ron - There's a good chance that the Comcast article is referring to the upcoming tiny BMW Isetta and its twin, the Fiat Topolino.

I recently read on the Comcast Web page that BMW will have a 100 MPG car on the street by 2010 in Europe. I check with BMW dealers in Vt and they do not know if that story is true. Why would Comcast show a story if it was not true. Does anyone have the true followup on this story?

WOW.... you must've been on one heck of a flat road to get those numbers.... or not. I just can't wait till my engine is properly broken in. Then I can switch from my lead foot.... hahaha.

Extreme MPG like the 58.82 the Taylor achieved is amazing, but not as impossible to reach for the average driver as we may think. My pal Louis-Alain got a quite respectable 56 MPG with the new Jetta TDI Clean Diesel by cruising at an ecodriven speed of 64 Miles/hour on a 161 miles ride. Read his post right here: http://www.tdicurious.ca/2008/10/quebec-city-to-montreal-tdi-style/
