g6,v6,4 speed auto.
24-27 avg.mpg is easy to get. with 2 people and a trunk full of junk can still do better than 22 avg. doing
45 mph. on back roads and highway can to 31 avg mpg in less than 30 minutes and have a personal best of 34.2 doing between 45 and 65 mph. this car loves doing 45mph when the tach drops 2000. wait till take all the stuff out of the trunk. my wife gets 22-24.

You guys need to suck it up.
Stop driving how you drive.
The car uses more fuel when you drive faster.
So to slove this problem, slow down.
Slowing down equals higher MPG.
And I know this and I am only 17.

@Hugh - The EPA dialed down all of the estimates starting with the 2008 model year. I'm not sure that I'd call it telling the truth ... more like making excuses for folks with heavy feet. :) I've yet to test drive a car that can't hit the official estimates.

What happened such that the gas mileage was better in the years preceding 2008? One would think they would get better at it as time goes on or perhaps they are getting better at telling the truth?

I have the same problem with my car. We took it to the dealer we brought it from, Southaven pontiac in Southaven, Miss. We had a hesitation just one time and an emission from the catalytic converter. They found no problems and no answer for 22 miles on a long trip. I am in no doubt at some time there will be a recall on some part of the car, but by then, will will have wasted all that gas. Kay Austin

@Megan - We haven't had the chance to review the Pontiac G6 yet ... but it's on our short list for review in the coming months.

You might want to try a change in driving style. This can make a big difference in the amount of gas you use every day. If the G6 has an Instant (or "Real-Time") MPG display, turn it on and leave it on. By watching the MPG numbers in real-time, you'll learn how to drive for higher fuel-efficiency.

An Average (or cumulative) MPG display doesn't provide that instantaneous feedback.

If your G6 does not have an Instant MPG display (I apologize that we haven't had the chance to review the G6 yet), you can add an after market device to view this information. We've used the ScanGaugeII with great results:

im not sure if there is something wrong with my 08 g6 4 cyl. but i only get 22 on any drive. my driving which is to work and back is probably about 4 miles city and 35 miles highway in a round trip. i took it to my local dealership and they said there are no reprograms so there is nothing they can do.
