Acctually, that doesn't sound too bad to me. I right at the moment have a poniac gxp v8 and I'm only getting 18mpg highway. I was thinking about getting one... Is the gas mileage really that bad? I want something like my car but with WAY better gas mileage. I know to get great gas mileage I would have to get something like an Aveo (which I hate) So, for the car is it an alright vehicle?

My 2009 G6 4 cylinder 2.4 liter is getting bad gas mileage too. I took the car to the dealership that I purchased the car from, Ed Rinke in Michigan, and they too said there is no reprogramming available for better gas mileage. My previous 2006 G6 4 cylinder got much much better gas mileage. My 2006 G6 got at lease 30 mpg on the highway and at least 24/25 mpg in the city. My 2009 G6 gets at most 24 mpg on the highways and 21/22 mpg in the city. My driving style has not changed in the past 6 months so that is not the reason for the change in gas mileage. I am very unhappy with the gas mileage the 2009 G6 actually receives (the sticker said 22/23 city and 30 for the highway). Does anyone have any advise as to what I can do? Is there a problem with the G6's? I wish I could return the car because the extra money I spend in gas is really going to add up. :-(

I just got my 4 cyl Pontiac G6's fuel injectors cleaned and as well changed my driving habits to make sure i wasnt over accelerating and all. So far with 50/50 driving, i average out to roughly 27MPG. Driving at the same speeds HELPS!!

g6,v6,4 speed auto.
24-27 avg.mpg is easy to get. with 2 people and a trunk full of junk can still do better than 22 avg. doing
45 mph. on back roads and highway can to 31 avg mpg in less than 30 minutes and have a personal best of 34.2 doing between 45 and 65 mph. this car loves doing 45mph when the tach drops 2000. wait till take all the stuff out of the trunk. my wife gets 22-24.

You guys need to suck it up.
Stop driving how you drive.
The car uses more fuel when you drive faster.
So to slove this problem, slow down.
Slowing down equals higher MPG.
And I know this and I am only 17.

@Hugh - The EPA dialed down all of the estimates starting with the 2008 model year. I'm not sure that I'd call it telling the truth ... more like making excuses for folks with heavy feet. :) I've yet to test drive a car that can't hit the official estimates.

What happened such that the gas mileage was better in the years preceding 2008? One would think they would get better at it as time goes on or perhaps they are getting better at telling the truth?
