Gas mileage, I never talk city, fill the tank till I see it, drive until I feel I need a fillup, fill it to the brim, miles devided by gallons.
I bought a little Chevy Sprint years ago used, 5 spd 3 cyl. carburated, always got near 50 mpg +. 1000 cc engine, no power anything, no A/C, just a gas saver.
We bought a 1994 Nissan Sentra 5 spd, A/C 15 years ago, my wife is still driving this wonderful little car, it now has about 160000 miles on it, would still look new except for hale damage, my wife is easy on her cars, never over 65 mph. from Oregon to Ok. she got a whopping 45 mpg. my question is,,(WHY) can't the auto manufactors build another gas mizer.
were going to drive the Sentra until it falls apart.

We have recently picked up another Aveo. Our first is an '04 with auto. It currently has 250,000+ KMs on it. Only repairs have been one set of front brake pads, 2 lower ball joints, both rear shocks & mounts. Inner tie rod ends now have play and will be replaced shortly. Only other investment has been oil changes (synthetic), air filters, and tires. The car is interesting, as it can achieve 42 MPG but only if driven 75 - 90 MPG. Lower highway speeds results in ~36 MPG. City ranges from 32 MPG - 36 MPG, traffic dependant. Our "new" Aveo is an '05 with standard trans. With only 61,000 KM on the clock, we're anticipating the same reliable service we've been getting from the first. First tank of gas in the '05 resulted in 32.8 MPG in the city, and that was with some fairly aggressive driving. Other Aveo owners I have talked to are experiencing the same satisfaction. These cars seem to be the best bang-for-the-buck out there, once the low cost of maintenance is factored in. We are going to be installing K&N air filters and custom cat-back exhaust systems in both cars shortly, just to see how much more MPG we can get out of them.

If I keep my 2001 185,000 miles ford Taurus under 60 mph running 150 miles per day and filling up at the same gas pump I get 28 to 30 miles per gallon. 28 with air. I think for $1,100 dollars I'll just drop another engine in it now that I see how little mileage these four bangers are getting. Just put in a rebult trans for $800. can buy alot of gas for 10 grand.

I have a 2006 Aveo 5 manual trans. When "new" I was getting about 26-28 combined mileage. On trips I was getting about 29 Hwy traveling "with traffic" (55 -70 mph). I was rather dissapointed. I now have 33,000 miles and my MPG has gone up to 28-30 combined and some of this can be below zero outside in winter and AC on in summer. The Hwy mileage from MPLS to Detroit "driving with traffic" is now up to about 32 mpg. No bragging. No BS. This is the REAL mileage. I am an "aggressive" driver, however the mileage isn't much different if I baby it either. It doesn't make much real power past 3000 RPMs, so I mostly shift at or before that mark and let the engines torque do its work. It has been very reliable. No warranty work besides the wiper arms! All in all a good cheap car. PS I had 3 Geo Metros and NONE of them EVER got better than 35 REAL MPGs...

I own a 5 gear aveo5 2007 and I find its not very good on gas in town. In town I average 10 to 11 liters for 100 km driving it normally. If I don't rev it passed 2000 RPM I can get a extra 100 km on a full tank. On the Hi way I can get 700 km on a full tank at speeds of 90 to 100 kph. At 120 kph i get 500 to 550km on a full tank. All I can say is why do thy call the engine echo tech? beats me.

My old mazda protege 1993 1.6 engine had the same gas per millage.

The thing with cars built in Korea is they use older engine technologies that they buy from say Toyota and other renown car builders. That way they can offer a car at a good price with some options in the base package.

in 2006 when I got my Aveo I payed 13 500 for the base model that included : MP3 CD line in, 5 door, rear wiper. These options where essential to me but I didn't expect the poor gas millage.

For 14 500$ I would of got a 3 door Yaris with 2 speakers cd player, no rear wiper. And the interest rate was 8%. Adding 2500$ I would of got the 5 door MP3CD rear wiper. Kind of steep to me for a small car at the time.

Taking in to account the price increase of gas and the resell value, the Yaris is a better buy.

I still enjoy the Aveo5, its spacious inside, parks where I don't expect it to fit, easy to maneuver and I dont really care if someone steels it :)

Kevin - Man I hate to tell you this but I get that mileage now in my Ranger (4.0 V6). You would think a Aveo would get much better mileage than that?

For those of you who are confused with the car's m.p.g, the tank only holds 10 gallons PLUS a 1.5 gallon reserve. When the gas tank needle touches the empty line, you've only used 10 gallons, and not 11.5. In my 05', I'm averaging about 18 in town and about 34 on the freeway. Which is kinda close to what the EPA stickers said.

yeh that whistle in cross winds and over 75 is annoying as heck... got this from another website

Yeah I know what you''re talking about. I had an 07 aveo that did the same thing. It only happened to me when I was driving 85+ though. It''s not the bearings so don''t go and replace your bearings pre-maturely. If it''s the same thing as mine was it was a whistling coming from the passenger wheel-well. The plastic lining in mine was a little loose so it made a whistling noise when I hit high speeds. I just epoxied it down and it stopped.
