Vince, Pete -

How long have you owned your Escape?

Over that time, has gas mileage decreased slowly or rapidly?

When was it last serviced at a Ford dealership? Was gas mileage an issue at that time?

What is your typical driving routine like?

For Pete: Does your Escape have sufficient time to warm up (while driving) to enable hybrid mode?

How heavy are you on the throttle?

I'm very pleased with my Escape Hybrid (2008 model). Despite living on a gravel road in snow country, I'm getting around 28 mpg (overall) in winter, and 32 in summer -- with 4WD! And that's with liberal use of heated seats and such in the winter, too. I'm surprised mileage isn't more, considering the light weight and small engine, but it's a great start.
